Sunday, July 3rd. 2016,
Dear humans,
today, I turn to you as spokesbee representing the global bee community. My name is Bini and I am currently living in a small beehive surrounded by orange trees in Valencia, Spain. We have been sharing this planet for more than 200,000 years now an we have always come along pretty well so far. Ok, maybe except for some little stings. But I can assure your that I am very sorry for this. Yet, recently we are confronted with something, we were not prepared for at all, and which additionally to this, increasingly harms my entire species: pesticides.
Therefore, I think now is the right moment to write down some important points. We do not just spend the whole day producing honey of course. By collecting nectar, my sisters and I pick up the polen from one flower and then carry it to another one. Thanks to this, plants can produce fruits and reproduce themselves. It is even estimated that a 80% of the crops and wild plants would disappear without our work.
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, there is not much work left for us in your ever-increasing cities. However, this is not the only thing that threatens us. Recently, we have heard very often that our friends living outside this plantation die. You, use such a huge a mount of pesticides on your fields that sooner or later this abusive usage of chemicals will lead to our extinction (and by the way, yours as well). At least, this is what your genious Einstein said:
”If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”
So please, do something! On behalf of the global bee population and all the species living on this beautiful planet, I ask you to use your incredible power to save our environment and not to destroy it!
Peaceful regards,
Signed.: Bini, the Bee
